Best Soundfonts
. Feb 27, 2014 Hey. I am starting this thread to try to collect everyone's favorite soundfonts for an orchestra, whether it be strings, a solo violin, or even a pizz violin. I will take brass, woodwind, piano, string, percussion, you name it. If it would go in a symphonic orchestra, I want to get it.

High Quality Soundfont

The king of chicago free download site. My goal is to combine all of the best soundfonts I can find that are free (VERY HARD TO FIND GOOD ONES.) into one MEGA-ORCHESTRA soundfont. I currently have one which is the best of about 4 or 5 hundred soundfonts I went through. Took forever, but I discuss it in length in my other thread It has several very good soundfonts replacing the musescore ones, but there are still several that are missing or that could be better. Here are some in particular I am searching for: SOLO stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass) Basoon Trombone (I don't really like the one I have. You have to turn its volume WAY down in the mixture every time or it destroys your ears!) Saxophone Any others you have, even if my soundfont already has them.
Who knows, maybe I will like it better. I will update the download link on the other thread every time that I update the soundfont.
Modern versions of Windows have General MIDI capability in the form of the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. This is the default General MIDI device that emulators such as DOSBox or ScummVM will use.

While it works well, the sound quality is quite average and can easily be improved by installing a different MIDI device and loading what are called soundfonts. The MIDI device I use is the CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth, which can be downloaded from Another pupular MIDI device is BASSMIDI, which can be downloaded from Soundfonts.
