But I want to use the rear panel jack instead. I dont know if there is a jumper on the motherboard to eliminate the internal speaker to force it over to the rear panel, if there is that would resolve it. However I would rather not waste time to figure that one out. Or maybe that would end up being an easier way. Any thoughts? Have you tried using the driver directly from Realtek instead of the pre-installed one? All else failing, before you get too involved trying to solve the problem using software, I would suggest checking the documentation on the motherboard. There may indeed be a jumper that you have to move. On a side note, I tend to not use “pre-built” versions of Linux for this very reason. I’ve learned through trial and a lot of error that you’re almost always better off starting from the ground up. Even with later versions of Ubuntu, I’ve found that it’s easier to start with the basic, stripped-down installation and add support as necessary to avoid conflicts. From what I see all over the internet, this is the way to install this driver, however I am not able to do that.

It seems to me that the installer was made for older kernel, Mint might have different path names or just misses some dependencies, I was not able to find out at last. After a quick on line search, I tried to get to admin panel by Alt-right click of the tool bar. For some reason did not work for me. I tried the different probable key combinations like the Windows Key - Alt, Ctrl- Alt, and shift. I also looked into installing ALSA, but apt-get can not find the package. Also ALSA's site said something about not downloading the binary for compile any more as it is integrated into the Kali image.

I took that to mean I should have ALSA with the original install. I then found the all setting panel, and see that I do not have any audio devices listed.

I have googled for linux drivers for my audio hardware, but I did not find anything. I am also not sure if I can use any driver. I see Kali is just dabian distro. Can you help resolve the issue or get me closer to a fix? What am I missing?
