Odd because I tried that before. I also disabled origin start on boot, which may be what fixed it. Steam has to be the one to start the entire process it seems. Thats a bummer because origin won't update in the background until I open a game. I think it was disabling Origin start at bootup that solved it. I did the same and this fixed it for me. It seems if Origin is running when you start the game from Steam then the overlay doesn't hook.
